Krishna then takes her back to the academy to plead with the teacher but the judges there are shocked to see him and one of the judges makes an offer to Krishna to allow the children to compete. In the qualifying round Lakshmi is unable to perform due to stage fear and since the whole team is disqualified she is thrown out. Later Krishna also is forced to again act as Lakshmi's father in he school too where the headmistress Kovai Sarala starts to have a crush on him. The little girl gets to know that a Pride of India dance competition is underway and wanting to train in the dance academy she convinces Krishna to pose as her father who agrees after much coaxing and also pays her fees. Lakshmi befriends a restaurant owner Krishna (Prabhu Deva) who allows her to dance to her hearts content to the music played. The school going Lakshmi's heart is on dance but her mother hates the very word. Nandhini (Aishwarya Rajesh) a single mother and her twelve year old child Lakshmi (Ditya Bhande) move in to Chennai. Director Vijay is reuniting with Prabhu Deva after the super hit 'Devi' and whether this one will get the same verdict from the audiences remains to be seen. Overall, Lakshmi, the film turned out to be unadorned.Prabhu Deva is the synonym for dance and when he headlines the cast of a dance film expectations are sure to skyrocket. And the “fat” kid was the best with his movements. Ditya Bhande who has played the title role was amazing with her dance performances. The School Principal character played by veteran Kovai Sarala was an insult to all educators, shown in the name of comedy, it was unnecessary.ĭespite all this, we are made to watch in entirety the two hours and ten minutes film simply because of the kids, they were awesome and their energy level keeps the movie going.
In Lakshmi, the villain character comes out weak and in the climax we are shown a different villain, making it all unrelatable for us. The enemy can be an external villain or an internal betrayal or failure.
None of the characters including the lead couple gets defined, no backstory and no closure even for them.įor films that portray personal triumphs against all odds (like the Rocky which defined this genre), it is important to have an emotional angle (could be love, a death or a parental feeling) and a powerful enemy for the audience to be rooting against and shoot at. Sadly, the film comes out as a season of Junior Jodi No.1 dance show on big screen. The film had everything going for it – an acclaimed Director A.L.Vijay whose earlier works including Kireedam(2007), Madraspattinam (2010) & Saivam (2014) were films I enjoyed a lot – a star cast of Prabhu Deva and Aishwarya Rajesh, two actors who are known for authenticity they bring on screen – and finally a Dangal (2016) style story, of a young girl who is a born dancer dreaming to win it big.
Some films you want to really like, but unfortunately, you are unable to due to a poor screenplay.
